Like most people, we at Rise worry about climate change and the environmental degradation happening to our earth’s resources--and we feel drawn to do something about it. We believe that the best place to start is in our own homes. Not only does having a more sustainable home benefit the planet, it is also beneficial to the homeowner--it will be healthier, more durable, and cost less to operate. Rooted in optimism in the human spirit, our goal is to educate and inspire people to build a more sustainable future.

Office Stewardship

At Rise, we consider the environment in everything that we do. We mandate a ‘no print unless absolutely necessary’ policy to minimize paper use. When printing is necessary, only FSC paper is used.

We have a single-use plastic ban, meaning only items that can be reused or recycled may be brought into the office, and the use of plastic and styrofoam items like cups and utensils are prohibited.

It’s no secret that we drink a lot of coffee at Rise. Our CEO even roasts his own beans! We make sure to compost the coffee grinds which the plants really seem to enjoy.

Environmentally Preferred Purchasing

Rise has implemented an Environmentally Preferred Purchasing (EPP) policy which reviews incoming products and evaluates their source, operation and downstream effects on the environment. First Preference will be given to:

  • Durable goods over disposable items
  • Certified sustainably produced paper and wood products
  • Refurbished and/or remanufactured goods
  • Non toxic substances (paint, solvents, and cleaners)

Environment Targets

Reducing waste is the most important step in waste management. Rise is committed to, and are actively working to reduce its waste on a daily basis. At the start of each calendar year, a waste audit is conducted to determine how much waste we’re producing, and targets set to reduce that amount by the end of the year. Triple Bottom Line

We follow the triple bottom line, meaning we measure our impact in terms of people, planet, and profit.

People

Company culture doesn’t just help attract amazing people, it amplifies their abilities and helps them do their best work. At Rise, values are what we value. We believe that the way to be most productive is with a reasonable, balanced work schedule, and we are dedicated to a healthy work/life balance so that work doesn’t come at the expense of the most important things in life. We also encourage all of our employees to get involved in local and environmental community charity efforts by volunteering time and/or providing other types of support. Rise employees are given 40 paid hours a year for volunteer time off.

Planet

Rise inherently, by its very nature and mission, is committed to the environment and to the future of our planet. This commitment includes a waste management program, public targets, and an Environmentally Preferred Purchasing policy. We are taking every effort to reduce our footprint including our single-use plastic office ban, composting service, and drive-less incentives.

Profit

We’re not just in this for us. We have pledged 1% of sales to go to the preservation and restoration of the natural environment. 1% for the Planet is an alliance of businesses that understand the necessity of protecting the natural environment. They understand that profit and loss are directly linked to its health, and are concerned with the social and environmental impacts of industry.
