Learn about Forced Air

Forced Air

Distribution of heat from a furnace to the different rooms of your house, via a fan moving warm air through ducts.

If you have forced air heat distribution, make sure to change the air filter in the furnace or heat pump regularly, at least every four months or according to the directions. If you are sensitive to dust or allergens, you can get advanced filter systems for your furnace to remove smaller particulates from the air. Also make sure nothing is blocking any of the air vents (pets, toys, lost clothing, etc.).

Responds quickly to changes in temperature setting on the thermostat.

Forced air heating was introduced in homes in North America around 1935, when electric fans became available to be coupled with coal furnaces.
