Learn about Freezer

An Energy Star freezer is an energy-efficient freezer with added insulation and improved compressors that save an average of 10% on energy compared to other models.

Look up the Energy Star label, and in Canada, check the yellow EnerGuide label for most efficient models. Chest freezers are more efficient than upright freezers.

Replacing an older freezer with an Energy Star freezer will decrease your energy bills and your environmental footprint.

Ice has really only been part of world trade since the early 1800s, when an entrepreneur named Frederic Tudor tried shipping ice cut from cold winter lakes near Boston, to the island of Martinique, so sweltering islanders could cool their drinks. They weren't buying. It took ten years for the selling of ice to begin to make any profit. The ice shipping business eventually boomed for just over a century, until mechanical ice-making took over the scene.
