Wool mattresses are mattresses that have had their internal materials replaced with wool. They replace the layers of latex, coils, foams, and other non-recyclable materials with sustainable, biodegradable wool. Wool mattresses are temperature and moisture regulative, providing a comfortable night's sleep. As well as being highly breathable and hypoallergenic, these mattresses also boast flame resistance, durability, and a sustainable alternative to the conventional mattress.

When searching for a wool mattress, you should understand the thickness of the mattress you would prefer. The thicker the filling, the softer your bed becomes. Also, look for a manufacturer that produces wool stuffing for the mattress. This addition will allow you to prolong the lifespan of your product and adjust firmness as necessary. If you're interested in ensuring your bed is sustainably sourced, look for the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) to determine if the product is organic. The Oeko-Tex Standard 100 is also used to certify products as low emission.

The primary sustainable feature of wool mattresses comes from the sustainability of wool. Wool is a renewable resource, growing back naturally after being harvested. At the end of the mattresses' life, the wool is biodegradable, breaking down and returning nutrients to the soil. Products with Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) are certified organic. And products with the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification are low emission.

Wool mattresses can have exceptionally long lifecycles when adequately maintained. This extended life reduces how often you need to replace your mattress, cutting down on waste going to the landfill.
