The Zip Water System: Sustainable Drinking Water Overview

We’ve all heard that drinking water is essential, but just how much water should you be drinking?

The National Academies of Engineering, Science and Medicine recommend women drink 2.7 liters of water daily and men drink 3.7 liters daily. That equates to about 7.5 12-ounce glasses for women and 10.4 glasses for men. These recommended amounts may be increased for pregnant and breastfeeding women and for those who engage in vigorous physical activities like marathon running and cycling.

By the time you notice you’re thirsty and reach for a glass of cool water, your body is already on it’s way to dehydration. Dehydration is a dangerous and avoidable condition that causes:

Fatigue
Dizziness
Headaches
Bad breath
Cramps
Dry skin and
May even cause you to crave sweet foods.

It’s incredibly important that we all have constant access to clean water to live healthy, happy lives.

Potential Contaminants in Your Drinking Water

Water quality varies widely from house to house, and most contaminants cannot be tasted or smelled. Water purifiers, like Brita and Pur, help to remove common contaminants like copper, chlorine, lead and sediment, but stop short at bacteria. Even if you filter your drinking water through these systems, you’re still leaving your family vulnerable to E. coli, vibrio, legionella, Asiatic cholera and more.

Many people then reach for bottled water to ensure their water is 100% clean, but put themselves at risk for plastic contamination including polypropylene, nylon, and polyethylene terephthalate. Not only is plastic bottled water laden with plastic debris, that plastic also adds up to 38 billion water bottles. These are thrown into landfills each year and 17 million barrels of wasted oil to manufacture those wasteful bottles. There has to be a better, more sustainable solution to clean drinking water!

What is the Zip Water System?

The Zip Water System was introduced by Australian Michael Crouch ten years ago to solve this drinking water crisis. Crouch pioneered a new solution to thoroughly filter contaminants in water and provide ready-to-drink water right from the tap.

Zip Industries has gained a world-renown reputation of excellent quality and has become the first and only Australian manufacturer to be accredited with the internationally recognized standards of ISO14001 (Environmental Systems Compliance), ISO9001 (Quality Management System) and AS/NZS4801 (Workplace Health & Safety System).

The Zip Water System has made it possible for us all to stop buying bottled water and drink right from the tap with confidence. It’s not just regular water. The Zip Water System HydroTap 0.2 dispenses ready-to-drink chilled water, boiling water, and even sparkling water, all with the simple press of a button.

All water is filtered through the Zip micron filtration system to remove tiny particles of dirt and contaminants as small as 1/5000thof a millimeter. This ultra-thorough water filtration method eliminates the taste and smell of chlorine, contaminants, and bacteria while retaining fluoride. According to the Center for Disease Control, flouride is beneficial in the prevention of tooth decay and cavities.

Zip Water Systems rely on an air-cooled ventilation system that does not waste a single drop of water to keep your water refreshingly cold. Water is also kept boiling using Zip’s Power-Pulse™Technology to store ready-to-use water without using additional energy to heat it. Theses water systems are designed to reduce energy use and have been proven to perform to the highest standards of environmental responsibility and sustainability. In fact, since launching ten years ago, Zip has decreased the energy consumption in their new Hydrotap Zip 0.2 by 53%. These water systems can also be programmed with timers to further save on electricity and filter replacements.

To help you conserve energy when not in use, Zip Water Systems automatically power down after two hours of non-use. It also uses a hidden light sensor to turn the unit off when the room goes dark. Your water filter can also be turned off manually at night, during weekend outings, and when you leave home for extended periods, business trips, and vacations. Now that’s smart!
