Learn about Tinted Window Film

Tinted Window Film

Tinted window film helps to reflect heat and ultraviolet rays from the sun that can enter through a window. A window can be manufactured with a tint, or a thin film can be purchased separately in rolls and applied by you or a contractor.

Be careful to choose the appropriate color and transparency, because some tints will reduce light penetration more than others. For example, blue and green tints will let more light through than black tints.

In a hot climate, heat absorbing window tints block solar radiation from entering the building and can reduce the amount of cooling needed in a home. However, note that they do not reduce the amount of heat lost through the windows, so they should not be used in a cold climate where heating requirements are significant.

Most home window tints can reduce ultraviolet rays by 99% and reduce heat gain in your home by up to 80%.
